THE STORY OF MR. NESAKUMAR &
MRS. JANET MATILDA
Every great mission begins with a moment that changes everything. For Mrs. Janet Matilda, that moment came while she was serving as the Headmistress of a school.
One day, during a routine classroom visit, she noticed a child sitting alone on the floor. Concerned, she asked the teacher why. The teacher’s response struck her deeply:
“They are village children. No matter how much I teach, nothing seems to stay in their minds, so I just leave them be.”
That remark stayed with her. She couldn’t forget the image of that child—silent, sidelined, and written off simply because of their background. In that moment, she knew something had to change.
Mrs. Janet shared her thoughts with her husband, Mr. Nesakumar, a two-wheeler mechanic. Together, they decided that village children deserved the same opportunities as anyone else. They believed that with the right care, guidance, and patience, every child could learn, grow, and dream big.
With no external funding, only their determination and the modest income from Mr. Nesakumar’s work, they started New Baldwin Vidhya Samsthe in 2006. What began as a small effort soon became a nurturing space for underprivileged, orphaned, and rural children a place where they could learn without judgment and grow without limits.
Their vision goes far beyond the present. They dream of building a residential school for underprivileged and orphaned children, with a special focus on educating and protecting girl children, who often face greater barriers and fewer opportunities.
Today, New Baldwin Vidhya Samsthe stands as a testament to what compassion, perseverance, and shared purpose can achieve. It is more than a school it is a safe haven, a place of second chances, and a launchpad for young futures.
Because here, every child matters.
